Center City nonprofit Public Health Management Corporation scored big this week by securing a $775,000 grant from TD Bank aimed at youth workforce development.

In a partnership with Camden, N.J.-based Hopeworks Camden, the grant will let the organizations serve 175 young adults from low-income families with a blend of tech skills and comprehensive health and human services over the course of the next year in both Philly and South Jersey.

“Essentially, we are going to expand to work with more young people, with PHMC adding additional supports,” said Dan Rhoton, executive director of Hopeworks Camden, which recently expanded to a techy 6,000-square-feet office.

“The TD Ready Challenge Grant recognizes the importance of giving at-risk youth the tools and education they need to excel in today’s skill-based economy,” said Pam Mattel, who recently became PHMC’s first Chief Program Officer. “PHMC is excited to offer this ‘super-vitamin’ program to truly provide youth with a healthy and successful pathway to lifelong financial security.”

The TD Ready Challenge grant program is part of the Toronto-based bank’s multi-year effort to dish out $775 million in funding by 2030.

In D.C., tech inclusion nonprofit ByteBack also won a grant from TD Bank, which it will use to expand into Baltimore.
